The sands, where the characteristic smells of the sea intermingle with those of the pine forest of the Mata Nacional da Gelfa protected area, are surrounded by dunes, crossed to access the beach courtesy of wooden walkways.

Gelfa in North Portugal is an exposed breach that has reliable surf and can work at any time of the year. Works best in offshore winds from the northeast. Windswells and groundswells in equal measure and the ideal swell angle is from the west.. Best around low tide. Less crowded spot for those who want to enjoy a smooth surf session.
